Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
